Site Design and Executive Pitch

As both the project manager and lead designer for this initiative, my first responsibility was collaborating with our web master and utilizing my own graphic design skills to build out a site framework to build executive leadership buy-in for the project. Specifically, I built the design elements in both Canva and Adobe Illustrator for the site, and designed the branding and overall user experience of the site. This presentation packet, which I also designed, was created to walk executives through the concept and used in our pitch meetings with leadership.

Discovery Phase

As lead team member on this project, I have been designated to help develop content for the site, assign work to team members and keep the project on our timeline. We began by building a "discovery list" in order to build a project backlog. My role during this time was to assign team members to investigate various discovery ideas we had brainstormed, meet with the team and discuss how we can take those ideas to produced content for the site.

Development Phase

My role during this phase has been two fold: continue leading the team to building content from ideas, and to put a few "real world" events into action that would also help produce content. I organized two key flagship events that would provide us with both video content and employee input for the site: Spill the Tea with HR and Your Seat at the Table: Career Growth at Dallas College. The events also served to build a foundation for HR to introduce the concept of succession planning to Dallas College. To launch these events, I lead the team by assigning roles, and connecting across the organization to reach out to key groups and individuals to serve as panelists and participants.

Spill the Tea with HR

The Spill the Tea events are a focus group targeting our Dallas College ERGs. Our first event, for the Women's ERG, was a virtual session. I assigned team members to break into small groups with participants, and lead the discussion on Employee Growth. Our goal in these events is to hear directly from our employees about what initiatives, policies, or opportunities they would like to see Dallas College offer for career exploration and growth. By combing the input, the Workforce Planning team can continue to build programming that speaks directly to what employees want and will invest in. From this session, some of the employee driven ideas we are now initiating into future development include an internal resume workshop and job fair, a leadership skill building program, and more development of potential career pathways from a faculty position to a staff/administrative position and vice-versa.

Your Seat at the Table: Career Growth Panel

The workforce of Dallas College has long been asking for a succession planning initiative that will help employees see more career mobility, and also help our college maintain institutional knowledge and experience when key roles become vacated. However, succession planning is a multi-tiered, complicated process. Our Career Growth Panel initiative served the purpose of easing Dallas College into the concept of succession planning by engaging a panel of experts in an hour long discussion in a virtual live broadcast. My role was to source our panelists, and collaborate with our IT and live broadcast studio (LeCroy) to organize the filming and broadcast.

Team assignments using Microsoft Lists

As we are progressing through the project, I am leading our team in building multiple items out from the backlog. We run all of our team assignments in Microsoft Lists. During each week's team meeting, we discuss progress on assignments and I help solve any potential issues. My contribution to content is very design heavy, as I create videos, build site pages, and add design assets.

Preparing for Launch

As the project moves ahead, we anticipate a Spring 2023 launch of DevelopU. With our pacing, we have multiple pages of content already prepared for deployment. We are continuing to build other key elements into the site that support a corresponding launch of Workday at Dallas College as well.
